November 2022 - Marius Cozmiuc

ROWER OF THE MONTH –  Marius Cozmiuc (ROU) won gold at the 2022 European, and then World Rowing Championships in the Men’s Pair. He also won gold as a junior rower on the same course in 2010.  He is our November 2022 Rower of the Month.

How has your 2022 season outside of regattas?

My 2022 season was a very good one. I enjoyed every moment. I had time to spend with family and this was great.

You had a great 2022 season. Was it a pretty straightforward season for you?

It was indeed a very good season for me. I wanted to do it without pressure and I’m very happy with the way it ended! It wasn’t simple but I enjoyed every single period of it.

Your wife is also on the Romanian team. What is it like having rowing be such a large part of your family life?

Not only my wife is part of the Romanian team, but so are many others in my family! My brother-in-law, Florin Lehaci, his fiancée Maria Tivodariu, and her little sister Gabriela are also a part of this big Romanian rowing team. We like to say that rowing is a family business, and I’m very lucky because I have a part of my family beside me.

How did you first get into rowing?

I started rowing in 2007 when I was selected at my school . It was a great opportunity for me and I am very grateful for that.

When you aren’t rowing, what does your life look like?

Now I’m a full-time rower but in the little free time I have, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, to travel and to make new memories.

What are your upcoming goals in rowing?

I want what every athlete wants… an Olympic gold medal. But in order to get it I need to qualify first, so this is my upcoming goal.

Where is your favourite rowing location?

It’s a very hard question. I think that is Racice because there I won my first world champion title as a junior, and this year I won it as a senior, so that place is a special one for me.

If you could give one piece of advice to a rower starting out, what would it be?

To believe in themselves, to work consistently and seriously, and to dream big.

What is the most memorable piece of advice that has been said to you?

I remember a piece of advice that my coach Antonio (Colamonici) gave me : A problem remains a problem, don’t make a hundred problems out of it!

Do you have a mentor or athlete that you admire?

I don’t think I have on specific mentor. I admire each athlete because I know how hard it is to be a performer and I like to learn and be inspired by each of them.
