European Rowing Event Decision - 2021 European Rowing Junior Championships
Following the 2021 World Rowing and European Rowing event confirmation framework, the European Rowing Board and the Munich Organising Committee (OC) have continued to review the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic situation in Germany ahead of the 2021 European Rowing Junior Championships planned for 22-23 May 2021.
The OC is facing difficulties in progressing their planning to deliver a safe and successful event given the cost, complexity, uncertainty and risk from the latest measures of the national and state governments to combat the elevated and currently increasing number of COVID-19 cases, the increased costs of accommodation for Member Federations due to these measures and inability of medical and rescue personnel and many volunteers connected to their work fighting the pandemic.
Due to these many factors, the European Rowing Board and the Munich OC have taken the following decision for the 2021 European Rowing Junior Championships, Munich:
- Current dates – This event is cancelled on the currently scheduled dates of 22-23 May 2021.
- Postponement – The OC are investigating alternate dates to host the event in September or October 2021 with their stakeholders. Member European Rowing Federations will be consulted in the next two weeks.
An update on the possibility of new dates for the 2021 European Rowing Junior Championships will be announced on Monday 12 April 2021. If it is possible to postpone the event, new accommodation booking deadlines and cancellation terms and deadlines will be issued by the OC as soon as possible.
