Open to anyone: the 2022 World Rowing Coaches Conference
The 2022 World Rowing Coaches Conference is coming up at the end of January and for the second year will be virtual. Open to anyone (not just the coaches!), the conference aims to share knowledge from various aspects of the sport, on how to develop athletes and teams at all levels. Registration is open until 28th Jan at 13:00 CET.
Here are the top reasons to join up and be part of it 29 January to 2 February.
Listen to the most knowledgeable from the world of rowing
The list of speakers is exceptional and there are more presentations than there would be from an in-person conference. Hear from the doctors, the athletes, the coaches themselves. The presentations will be uploaded each day by 09:00 CET.
Hear from the rowers themselves
Take in the wise words from former top rowers; Eric Murray (New Zealand) and the relentless pressure of winning over an eight-year person and the five-time Olympian and Olympic medallist Fran Houghton (Great Britain).
Take in the 2022 coaches conference theme
The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Celebrating excellent coaching’. With Olympic medal winning coaches such as Michelle Darvill (CAN), Christine Gosse (FRA), and Xiuyun Zhang (CHN), you’ll be able to hear about some of the coaching behind these stellar Tokyo 2020 performances.
Improved schedule
We’ve taken your feedback from last year’s virtual conference and have shortened the sessions by lengthening the conference over multiple days. There will be one live session on Day One (29 Jan) and then four days of recorded sessions, which will be available to watch at any point afterwards. It’s possible to dip in and out as it’s virtual and watch the presentations when it suits your schedule.
It’s combined with the Youth Coaches Conference
The team being highlighted is the United States coaching and development team. This team did great at the 2021 World Rowing Junior Championships with seven out of their 14 boats making the final and winning three gold and one bronze medal.
Be the first to see the Women in Coaching toolkit
This project, created by the World Rowing Development team, will be launched at the conference. It aims to help nations develop their coaching pathways for women, at all levels of the sport. This session will be presented by Claire Lambe.
Indoor rowing gets highlighted
New this year is a focus on indoor rowing. There will be a panel discussion engaging rowers in indoor rowing, including Kirsten Kline, Shane Farmer, and Kevin Scott. Another session on indoor rowing, run by Dr. Volker Nolte and Eric Murray, will cover a range of topics including the practical application of biomechanics.
The price is right!
No booking expensive flights to the other side of the world, waiting around in airport queues or missing flights. Registration is 30CHF, and can be done online through RegattaCentral.
Step outside your normal learnings and do it in your pyjamas!
It’s virtual so do it when and where and how you want. And take the advice of organiser and chair of World Rowing’s competitive commission Rosie Mayglothling, “Listen to a session you might not have picked. One of the best sessions about coaching I ever attended was by accident as the session I had planned to attend was oversubscribed. Different can be thought provoking and enlightening.”
Registration is open until 28th Jan at 13:00 CET.
