Violation of Anti-Doping Rules by Christopher Bailey at the 2022 World Rowing Virtual Indoor Championships
In accordance with Article 14.3 of the World Rowing Anti-Doping Rules (“WR ADR”), World Rowing reports that the rower Christopher Bailey (United Kingdom) has committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation under Article 2.1 of the World Rowing Anti-Doping Rules (Presence of a Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites or Markers in a Rower’s Sample).
More precisely, a sample collected from Mr Bailey on 26 February 2022 at the 2022 World Rowing Virtual Indoor Championships revealed the presence of Drostanolone and its metabolite 3α-hydroxy-2α-methyl-5a-androstan-17-one. Such substance is banned at all times as per the 2022 WADA Prohibited List and is classified under class S1. as Anabolic Androgenic Steroid.
The Rower has been sanctioned as follows:
- Period of Ineligibility of 4 years from 25 April 2022 until 24 April 2026
- Disqualification of all competitive results of from 26 February 2022, including forfeiture of medals, points and prizes.
The full decision can be accessed here.
World Rowing remains strongly and deeply committed to fighting against doping and believes in clean sport – including in virtual competitions, and sincerely regrets to hear about these cases.
