World Rowing looks to the future with 30 events attributed

The Strategic Event Attribution Process, SEAP, was launched at the end of 2017 and allowed for those interested in hosting events to indicate interest through to 2028. For the time period through to 2024, More than 36 venues from 21 countries participated in the process and, at the end, 30 events were attributed during the FISA Congress in Linz, Austria on 2 September.

These events will be in 16 countries, stretching across three continents and at 20 different venues. They also include the first World Rowing event ever to be held in Africa – the 2023 World Rowing Masters Regatta in Pretoria, South Africa.A number of European Championship regattas were also attributed in Linz.

The SEAP, offers a long-term, more strategic approach to attributing World Rowing events. It recognises the considerable investments made in rowing regatta venues by national, regional and local governments, and their wishes for effective staging of local, national and international events to keep them viable and operational. These investment decisions are sensitive and critical for rowing and is in recognition of a more thoughtful, planned approach to attribution of events. It has been greatly appreciated by many of the government authorities.

There are still three events open for bidding and they will go through a second chance, ‘repechage’ round. World Rowing is now accepting expressions of interest for these remaining three events. These will be attributed at the next FISA Council meeting in February 2020.

•         2024 World Rowing Cup 1

For World Rowing Indoor Championships and World Rowing Coastal events, the event attribution process for 2021-2024 is now open. Interested bidders should email Liz Soutter directly for more information, or look at the event bidding page on the website. The event attribution process for these events will run from now until February 2020.
